Sonder Celebrate 10 Years

Last week the Sonder team returned to Sydney to mark ten years since the business was founded.

It felt like the right place to do it. Not just to recognise the milestone, but to take a moment to reflect on how far things have come and spend time together where it all began.

Sonder was launched in 2016 with a clear focus on private practice legal recruitment. What followed was not growth for the sake of it, but a series of considered steps into key global markets, building steadily and learning along the way.

From the first hire in 2017 to early international placements across Asia, the UK and offshore markets, the foundations were laid early. The opening of London in 2020 marked a real shift, moving from international reach to a physical global presence. New York followed, then Los Angeles, then Hong Kong.

Each office was not simply an expansion, but a response to where the market was moving and where our clients and candidates needed us to be.

Over time, the business has grown up. The brand has become clearer. The network has deepened. And the work itself has evolved with it.

Today, Sonder operates across some of the most competitive areas of the legal market, advising lawyers and law firms on strategic moves across jurisdictions. The focus remains the same, but the scale and complexity have naturally increased.

2025 was a record year for the business, but that is not what stood out most during our time in Sydney. What stood out was the people. Those who joined early and helped build the foundations, those who have come in and raised the standard, and those who continue to shape what Sonder becomes next. Bringing everyone together made that very clear.

Ten years in, there is a real sense of momentum, but also the feeling that this is still just the beginning.
